Our expertise is in human rights, democratization, social and economic justice, gender equality, conflict and justice and emergency response and disaster resilience. We are funded by Sida, EU, FCDO, other European Governments and various philanthropic foundations such as Ford Foundation, Hewlett Packard, Gates Foundation, etc.

We are now seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Resource Mobilization and Donor Engagement Advisor for the Africa Region.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Analysis of Trends: Conduct in-depth analysis of trends in development cooperation and philanthropic funding for the Africa region. Stay informed about changes in international development policies and donor priorities.
  • Development of Resource Mobilization Strategies: In collaboration with Country Directors, the Regional Management Team, and programme teams in the Africa region, formulate resource mobilization strategies aligned with Diakonia organizational objectives.
  • Mapping of Donors and Development of Donor Engagement Plans: Identify and map potential donors for Diakonia programmes in the Africa region, both institutional, philanthropic, and private sector partners. Maintain an updated database of donor profiles, priorities, and funding cycles. Develop and maintain donor engagement plans in collaboration with Diakonia Country Directors, the Regional Management Team, and programme teams in the Africa region.
  • Networking and Relationship Building: In collaboration with Country Directors, the Regional Management Team, and programme teams in the Africa region, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors. Represent Diakonia at relevant forums, conferences, and networking events.
  • Development of Capacity Statements, Concept Notes, and Proposals in both French and English: Lead the development of high-quality capacity statements, concept notes, and funding proposals. Ensure proposals are tailored to meet donor requirements, highlight the unique selling points and the added value of Diakonia and its partners, and align with organizational objectives.
  • Development of Resource Mobilization Communication Material in French and English: Collaborate with the communications team and country programmes to create content for engaging and attractive materials to support donor engagement and advocacy initiatives. Contribute to the production of reports, success stories, and other materials to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Coordination with Diakonia Global Resource Mobilization Team: Collaborate with the Global Resource Mobilization Team and ensure that internal learnings and best practices are shared in the organisation.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (International Development, Communications, etc.)
  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in resource mobilization and donor relations within the NGO sector.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies.
