Minimum requirements
Senior Lecturer
Doctorate in Food Science or Food
A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at a university
Publications in DHET-accredited journals minimum of three (3) DHET-accredited publications over the preceding three years.
Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students minimum of one (1) master’s student.
Recipient of grant
Associate Professor
Doctorate in Food Science or Food
A minimum of eight (8) years of teaching experience at a university
Publications in DHET-accredited journals minimum of seven (7) DHET-accredited publications over the preceding three years.
Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students minimum of two (2) master’s students and one Doctoral candidate.
Recipient of grant
Full Professor
Doctorate in Food Science or Food
Distinguished scholar with an NRF C-rating
A minimum of ten (10) years of teaching experience at a university
Publications in DHET-accredited journals minimum of ten (10) DHET-accredited publications over the preceding three years.
Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students minimum of seven (7) master’s students and three Doctoral candidates.
Recipient of grant
Additional Requirements:
Extensive experience/ comprehensive knowledge of food safety with a willingness to spearhead research in this area.
Collaboration with local and international
Design and development of curricula for
Proficiency in blended teaching and
Track record of interactions with industry and participation in community engagement
Summary of Duties:
Teach food science, legislation and/or food microbiology modules at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels in the Food Science/ Biotechnology Programmes and to all faculties to which the Faculty of Applied Sciences renders a service in undergraduate and honours level.
Manage/ co-ordinate academic and research.
Supervise undergraduate/ postgraduate.
Participate in community engagement.
Perform other duties as determined by the Head of Department
