Description of role:

This assistant level position will support the development, delivery, and evaluation of Crisis Action’s international campaigns to protect civilians in conflicts. The role will work closely with global campaign teams across Crisis Action’s offices, in South Africa, across the region, and internationally. The role will report to the UK Director, and as part of the Crisis Action UK team they will also take on tasks outside of these campaigns.

Primary tasks will include:

  • Supporting global advocacy and campaign work, including planning, preparing, and delivering activities ranging from media work to private advocacy to online mobilisation.
  • Supporting the development of campaign products, including social media toolkits, press releases and joint letters.
  • Organising and taking minutes of campaign calls and meetings with the team, partners, allies, experts, and government officials.
  • Monitoring UK and international media and social media to keep abreast of political and conflict-specific developments, track media pick-up of campaign products, and collate regular media updates for the team and our partners.
  • Monitoring developments in the UK Parliament to track actions from our key political targets, scope for new potential political allies, and spot opportunities for influencing on the issues that we campaign on.
  • Undertaking research on issues and contacts relevant to our campaign work, including attending relevant external events and drafting briefings and/or intel updates for the team.
  • Collating input from team or partners on evaluations/ post-action debriefs and surveys.

    Scoping current crises and drafting internal ‘Emergency Watch’ reports on emerging crises.
  • Providing significant administrative support to the Crisis Action UK office, including:
  • Maintaining the central partner and contact database.
  • Updating the evidence of change journal to track and record policy change and impact.

    We are looking for someone who:
  • Has excellent organisational administrative and computer/technology skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Has excellent communication skills, and excellent oral and written English (additional languages, including particularly Arabic and French are a significant bonus).
  • Is a good analyst and creative thinker.
  • Is a self-starter, takes the initiative, able to multi-task and flourish in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has excellent research skills and ability to distil and summarise complex topics into easy-to understand formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Has an interest in conflict and human rights issues and/or campaigning and advocacy, an interest in UK politics is desirable.
  • Has an interest in working with civil society organisations and/or government institutions.
