For ten years, their core product has been video-based agricultural extension, putting the power of local knowledge in the hands of local farmers. In recent months, they have begun to invest in building the public infrastructure to support smallholder farmers globally.
Today, their product work is focused on hyper-local content delivery and market connections, powered by a modular, customizable digital platform, empowering an ecosystem of frontline workers, cooperatives, and agricultural service providers.
Digital Green joins forces with governments, private agencies, CSOs, and, most importantly, rural communities themselves to co-create digital solutions that help smallholder farmers increase productivity and income.
Digital Green seeks to recruit a Technical Product Manager who will work with an agricultural state agency in Kenya to lead the development, management, and scaling of FarmStack within the agricultural agency
Overall Purpose of the Role
FarmStack is an open-source data-sharing digital platform designed to empower smallholder farmers through data-driven insights and technology. You will lead the development, management, and scaling of FarmStack within the agricultural agency.
You will work closely with the technical teams at Digital Green to ensure the platform’s success for users. Based on the successful scaling of Farmstack usage at the government agency, your role may expand to managing the technical delivery of advisory distribution tools and AI-powered bots within the government agency.
Enterprise User Success
Help to define, refine, and manage a clear set of user success metrics at the government Agricultural Research agency focusing on growing usage of the platform amongst the agency teams over time.
Triage user experience issues, providing technical and non-technical support as our users learn to get value from the system
Build a robust feedback loop between government agricultural agency users and the Digital Green Product team, ensuring that issues surface quickly, so that changes can be made to the user experience.
Develop and deliver training modules for agricultural Agency staff to ensure effective utilization of FarmStack.
Create user guides and FAQs to assist in the adoption of the platform.
Product Leadership
Oversee the deployment of FarmStack at the government agricultural research agency, leveraging your fluency in open-source technologies such as Node.js, React.js, Python, Django, REST APIs, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Make key technical recommendations and ensure the development team adheres to best practices and coding standards.
Design and implement use cases for integrating datasets from various sources, including public records, private databases, and civil society contributions.
Utilize these integrated datasets to deliver tailored advisory services through channels like SMS, IVR, and chatbots.
Write comprehensive Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) that outline the scope, objectives, and deliverables for each development cycle.
Create wireframes and mock-ups to visualize the user interface and experience.
Product Evolution
Collaborate with content creators, data scientists, and marketing teams to disseminate targeted, farm-level content across multiple channels.
Use analytics tools to measure the impact and reach of disseminated content.
Leverage generative AI technologies to automate content creation and predictive analytics within FarmStack.
Stay updated on the latest AI trends and technologies that can be integrated into FarmStack.
Partnership Management
Coordinate with Digital Green and other partners to align technological developments and updates.
Provide regular reports on the status and milestones of the Government Agricultural Research agency and Digital Green partnership.
Qualifications:
BSc or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Ideally you have some UX experience as it’s important to us to think deeply about product design decisions and how to create simple user interfaces
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in software analysis, product development, product management, and business analysis.
Proficient in Node.js, React.js, Python, Django, REST APIs, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
In-depth understanding of generative AI technologies and their applications in data analytics and content generation.
Certified Scrum Master or equivalent experience in Agile development methodologies.
Experience working with government agencies in Agriculture to build capacity is a distinct advantage.
Excellent knowledge of user-centred design principles
Communication
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Proven experience in PRD writing and creating wireframes.
Proven experience in managing remote teams and setting up effective meeting cadences
