Kenya Forest Service Commandant Jobs
Entry Requirements :
Degree in Security Studies, forestry, social sciences or its equivalent from a recognized institution
Master’s Degree in security studies or relevant social science from a recognized institution
At least twelve 12 years’ in security field four (4) of which in the senior management or equivalent with experience in Investigation, prosecution, Intelligence, or College Administration in Military or paramilitary formation.
National Defence Course Kenya or its equivalent from a recognized institution
Professional qualification and membership where applicable
Strategic Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
Proficiency in Computer applications
Meet the requirements of chapter six of the constitution of Kenya 2010.
The commandant reports to the Chief Conservator of Forests.
Duties and responsibilities
Responsible for effective and efficient day to day administration and operations of the directorate of protection and security.
Developing resource mobilization strategies for the Directorate
Leading and participating in developing new and review existing policies, legislations, strategies, programmes and projects for the directorate.
Budget planning, preparation, implementation, monitoring and provision of support for directorate.
Advising the Service on Forest protection and Security matters
Performance management, supervising, appraising and developing officers of the Directorate.
Leading, participating in reviewing Forest Laws and regulations
Ensuring effective handling, maintenance and safe custody of security equipment and assets of the Service.
Oversee, participate and supervise recruitment, training, promotion and deployment of Rangers
Liaise with Head Legal on matters of law enforcement in relation to protection and security functions, cases facing Uniformed and Disciplined personnel, suits against the Service and on prosecution of Forest Offences.
Ensuring safety of personnel, equipment and installations.
Constitute transfer and deployment committees in the Directorate.
Lead in the establishment of systems for effective collaboration with government security agencies, communities and other stakeholders for effective enforcement of forest laws.
Coordinating requisite training for officers of the Directorate and other uniformed officers.
Overseeing management of the forest law enforcement academy
Leading in the implementation of the Forest Protection and Security infrastructural plans.
Ensure the provision of vehicles, security equipment and the welfare of Protection and Security personnel.
Planning and procuring of modern tools, equipment and uniforms for the Officers of the Directorate for effective service delivery.
Leading in developing, planning and implementing emergency response program.
Leading in planning and developing forest protection and security work plans, budget and performance contracts for the Directorate.
Participate in multi-agency and security operations.
Review Protection and Enforcement training policy, curriculum and programmes.
Development and enforcement of service uniform dress code.
