Makerere University Walter Reed Project Deputy Research Manager Jobs in Uganda
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will oversee daily operations in the Research department, collaborating with support departments to achieve project goals, maintain quality, and provide guidance and supervision to staff involved in research projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise staff to complete research projects on time and address challenges, including mentoring in protocol development and abstract writing.
Track research project progress and report to management and sponsors.
Collaborate with internal teams to enhance scientific capacity, including activities like grant writing, networking, and attending regular research meetings.
Participate in grant proposal development, submission, and implementation, ensuring quality standards are met.
Develop and implement a Quality Management Plan, ensuring research deliverables meet quality requirements.
Write and coordinate abstracts and publications for conferences and scientific journals and make presentations at scientific meetings.
Stay updated on the latest developments in infectious disease research.
Act as a substitute for the Research Manager as needed and assist in identifying staffing needs.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Bachelor degree in Medicine & Surgery
Master’s degree in Clinical Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other Clinical Research related field with a minimum of 5 years work experience.
Experience in protocol development and successful grant writing
Knowledge of the principles and strategies in research quality control and quality assurance.
Strong leadership, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training communication and writing skills.
Ethics Training
Biostatistics
Knowledge of International and Ugandan Regulatory Procedures.
Knowledge and experience of HIV/AIDS – prevention care, and treatment.
Experience in the delivery and/or participation of continuing education sessions
Experience and knowledge in grants proposal writing.
Good interpersonal skills
Personal Attributes & physical ability
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
Strong supervisory and team leadership skills, including team building, delegation, and staff appraisal.
Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Proficient in performance management.
Effective professional communication in writing, verbally, and through various means.
Willingness and ability to travel between MUWRP research sites.
