Background

The Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST) is a 7-year (2022-2029) program implemented by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). KBEST has a strong focus on increasing the equitable participation of girls and women, youth, and vulnerable populations in the Blue Economy.

KBEST works in collaboration with the Kenyan Ministry of Education, Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, county governments, civil society, and industry; working with 24 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the Coast and Lake Victoria regions of Kenya.

It will share the expertise of Canada’s colleges and institutes in linking young women and young men, educational institutions, and employers to develop competency-based education and training for employment programs in Kenya around the Blue Economy.

General Expectations

Reporting to the Senior Program Officer (SPO) and working with stakeholders in the specific assigned region, the Partnership Coordinator will support the project team in the coordination of program activities between the partnerships and their program partners, i.e., the assigned technical and vocational institutions, industry partners, women rights organizations and relevant county government departments.

The Partnership Coordinator will specifically provide program management support and coordination to the institutional and thematic partnerships, women rights organizations and relevant county government departments in the assigned regions. This includes providing logistics assistance to institutional and thematic partners and other program partners to coordinate field visits and communications support for the program.

They will also work in close collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team based in Nairobi to support data collection and timely and quality reporting from the partnerships. The position is expected to involve some travel within Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Partnership Coordinator will:

  • Organize logistics for partnership activities and support the national Project Office with locally based activities.
  • Provide program coordination and support in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of program activities.
  • Support the implementation and tracking of KBEST’s monitoring, evaluation and learning activities and gender activities in the assigned regions,
  • Coordinate with the Communications team for visibility of partnership in the assigned region.
  • Liaise with partner women’s rights organizations and County governments to support project activities.
  • Provide updates to the Senior Technical Advisor (STA) and Senior Program Officer (SPO) on key issues raised by partners in the field and identify those that need action.
  • Support KBEST Regional Working Group (RWG) meetings and consultations as requested.
  • Prepare reports and documents as requested by the Senior Technical Advisor and/or the Senior Program Officer.
  • Maintain records of partnership activities.
  • Provide verbal updates periodically as requested by the Senior Technical Advisor or Senior Program Officer.
  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned.

    Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • A diploma or degree in business administration or social sciences,
  • Experience working in a program coordination and administrative role
  • Experience in research and report-writing,
  • A proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders in Government, CSOs and education (preferably TVET) institutions or agencies,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili,
  • A good level of proficiency with using the Internet, MS Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook), and Skype, Microsoft Teams (or a similar application).

    Preferred Skills Abilities, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Knowledge of, and some experience with, Results-Based Management (RBM) and Logic Model planning and reporting frameworks,
  • Experience working in a donor-funded program environment,
  • Ability to speak other regional languages an asset,
  • Ability to work independently,
  • Prior experience working with and for NGOs preferred,
  • Demonstrated punctuality, attention to detail, professionalism, patience, good humor, and an overall outgoing and positive attitude,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exhibiting grace under pressure,
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities concurrently,
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures,
  • Specific experience and/or education in the Blue Economy or marine sciences an asset,
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan education system, particularly in TVET.
