Job Summary

Under the overall supervision of the Program Director, the DIC will lead the planning and implementation of the organization’s digital inclusion products and services under the Building Resilient Innovations for Digital Growth and Empowerment of Communities in Uganda (BRIDGE) Project.

Working with both internal and external stakeholders the DIC will play a strategic role in integrating digital transformation into Food for Hungary’s core interventions to increase innovation and improve program impact.

The DIC is expected to apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) approaches in developing solutions to support marginalized communities to have equal and safe opportunities to digital tools and technology to accelerate access to; education, health, and economic services among others.

As a project lead, the DIC will leverage FH’s long-term catalytic relationships with communities to foster last-mile adoption of digital technologies using an ecosystem approach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning, Implementation, and Coordination

  • In close collaboration with the Program Director oversee the co-creation, development, and delivery of digital solutions to enhance access to education, health, and economic opportunities for a range of users in the community
  • To manage the BRIDGE project and ensure technical oversight and delivery of the different project components, prepare work plans, budgets, and procurement guidelines
  • Responsible for project financial management including cash flow planning and budget tracking, approval of expenditures in line with the organization’s approval matrix
  • Managing project teams, including team engagement, capacity building, supervision, and periodical evaluation of the performance of the project staff.
  • Develop and deliver training packages related to digital inclusion for project teams, school teachers, students, and other community change users groups as required
  • Develop relevant SOPs for sustainable management of Digital communities in line with the outcomes of the project
  • Design promotional materials and other IEC materials to promote digital literacy among schools, teachers, health staff, and other community user groups
  • Lead the design of approaches that foster universal access to digital literacy in communities with a focus on gender, youth, and disability inclusion.

    Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

  • Support the design and delivery of appropriate mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness and Impact of Digital interventions in close collaboration with the FHA Ministry impact team
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to assess the progress of the project in line with agreed KPIs and benchmarks
  • Engage key thought leaders and stakeholders in the Digital Agriculture, Agribusiness, and mobile health to increase the knowledge base and communicate progress and learnings.
  • Lead analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning, and decision making
  • Lead the learning agenda of the project among digital communities, which fosters digital literacy and scale up other digital inclusion offerings.

    Partnership management and Networking

  • Mapping current efforts and projects that are tackling digital exclusion in target areas and identifying potential for developing synergies
  • Build and maintain effective contacts and relationships with all stakeholders, community users groups, local government officials, private sector players, and other NGOs etc.
  • In partnership with the private sector, leverage on existing digital communities to co-create value-added services that increase access to information in health and agriculture.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations, government representatives and other key stakeholders at the country level, communities of practice and national education stakeholders
  • Work closely with private sector partners including social enterprises, Fintechs, mobile health, Mobile Network operators to create an ecosystem, which fosters digital inclusion.
  • Participate in national events on digital literacy and position FHA Uganda as a key player in the ICT4 Development sector
  • Participate in Digital partner coordination working groups, task forces and other meetings where relevant.

    Job Level Specifications

  • Experience of 7+ years in any combination of social enterprise, tech-private company, INGO, ICT4D / Digital for Development, donor or international implementer
  • At least 4 years of experience running digital inclusion activities for education, health, and economic services for marginalized communities
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and proven experience in co-developing ideas with partners, strong workshop facilitation skills, and experience in design thinking approaches
  • Proven business development skills, proposal writing, and partnership building with a history of collaborative project development and submitting winning applications
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills, risk management skills as well as decision-making skills
  • Have a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Strong aptitude for organizational change, participatory and servant leadership, innovation, learning, and team building
  • Willingness to live and work in remote or hard-to-reach locations
  • Strong presentation, speaking, and writing skills
  • Effective Inter- and –Intra personal communication
  • Creative thinker – Someone who can look at the wider vision/system and work flexibly within complex structures
  • Digitally confident – someone who is knowledgeable about basic digital technologies

    Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information technology/Systems, Software engineering, Health informatics, Business Information, Digital communication, or a related field. A postgraduate diploma or Master’s degree in a related field is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience with participatory approaches to development, including capacity building of local institutions and human-centered design approaches
  • Knowledge and experience working with other cultures and sensitivity to the cross-cultural issues

    Language Skills

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in English.
