Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is in the Office of Chief Service Delivery within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia ( UNSOS), located in Mogadishu, Somalia. The Senior Logistics Officer reports to the Chief Service Delivery .
Responsibilities
The Senior Logistics Officer manages the provision of logistics services in support of the Service Delivery operations of the mission including materials management, transportation, maintenance, provisions of life support, contracts and services management, engineering and medical services. Within delegated authority, the Senior Logistics Officer at this level, will be responsible for the following duties:
• Exercises managerial and supervisory control over all service support required by future, current or liquidating of the mission.
• Develops, prepares, coordinates and monitors overall service support plans, priorities or requirements, and resolution of urgent operational needs.
• Assists in the development of policy and procedures for Service Delivery Pillar.
• Acts as the principal liaison for logistics matters and coordinates day to day operations of the Service and workplan deliverables .
• Ensures overall planning and coordination of logistics support as may be required field assistance visits, identifies capacity gaps, monitors progress, and develops action plans.
• Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
• Advises senior management on Service Delivery management, structures and staffing levels to ensure that they are at all times adequate to meet the requirements of the Service Delivery strategy.
• Leads technical survey missions.
• Organizes and chairs logistics meetings.
• Manages and coordinates a multifunctional logistics operation in the field.
• Chairs or is a member of field mission administrative and financial bodies.
• Reviews and endorse for approval all tasking orders, renewal or extension of contractors’ contracts and other pertinent documents that require CSD approval.
• Assumes responsibilities of a certifying officer.
• Deputizes for Chief Service Delivery as and when required
• Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of fiscal policies and procedures and ability to apply them in the UN environment. Ability to provide professional technical advice in a broad range of logistics areas to managers.
