UN Interim Security Force for Abyei Fire Safety Assistant (Aviation) Jobs in South Sudan
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The Fire Safety Assistant reports to the Aviation Fire Safety Officer or their designate.
Within delegated authority, the Fire Safety Assistant at this level is responsible to perform all operational and safety functions at the airfield during an assigned shift, operating within established guidelines and procedures. Performs duties in the fire services area of assignment and heliport & Remote Helicopter Landing Sites operations in the Team Sites. Duties to include, but not limited to.
Responding to aircraft incidents, fires, hazardous spills and structural fires occurring on airport property.
Performing various inspections, testing and maintenance of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) apparatus, equipment, airport equipment, fuel trucks, fuel farms and fire extinguishers.
Fire prevention tasks to include inspecting Heliports, Remote Helicopter Landing Sites fueling vehicles, runways, taxiways and lighting around the land side & airside.
Assist in the evacuation of people in life-threatening situations using available resources.
Fight fires using a range of specialized Crash Rescue Rapid Intervention vehicles, equipment, such as hoses, foam branches and monitors.
Drive & operate a large and medium Rosenbauer sophisticated and state of the art modern technology Fire trucks rescue apparatus and operate foam pumping equipment. And other Fire and Rescue equipment necessary to be used in an event of disaster or mass casualty accident.
Participate in conducting regular Fire risk assessments and fire safety inspections in ABYEI HQ & Remote Helicopter Landing Sites within ABYEI Administrative areas, as well as frequent Fire safety reminders; reports all shortcomings and makes recommendations aimed at implementing measures to correct shortcomings and potential Fire hazards, and to bring the premises/facilities to applicable NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Fire safety standards or equivalent.
Participate in the planning and carrying out facility evacuation / Emergency Evacuation drills, Fire drill and other exercises as required.
Assists in the technical assessment of Firefighting equipment & other related emergency equipment.
Assists in drafting specifications for all Firefighting equipment and devices, including Fire Apparatus and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: protective clothing, self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA, incl. filling compressors), Fire extinguishers, hoses and nozzles, portable pumps, rescue equipment, etc., and maintains full state of readiness for all equipment and installations available.
Assists in planning the installations and systems such as: water supply reservoir, water standpipes, extinguishing systems, spill basins, construction components (fire partition), lightning protection, explosion proof installations, smoke extraction systems, public address systems, etc.
Conducts Aviation Fire safety awareness briefings and training as assigned.
Maintains accurate records on all above and monitors compliance with the Aviation Fire Safety program.
Personnel will receive training in additional specialized areas in which certification is sought.
The candidate must possess a heavy specialize Firefighting Vehicle driver license category with experience and training on the Firefighting Pump Operations.
The candidate must have background and experience in Rapid Intervention Vehicle and the Pump operations.
The candidate must possess at least a certification in Airport Rescue & Firefighting, IATA airport training certificates or equivalent.

Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in Fire and Rescue, dangerous goods, fire medical assistance will be added advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the field of aviation fire safety, emergency response or other related fields. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in the United Nations is highly desirable. Such experience would be indicative of the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position at a high level.
Other:
Physical fitness is a requirement.
Must possess a Heavy Specialized Driver’s License.
Knowledge of first aid is an added advantage.
Language:
English is the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English, (both oral and written) is required.
