Overall Job Purpose
Supporting the HQ Communication Desk in the internal and external communication of the activities of Johanniter in Africa. This will be done in close cooperation with the Johanniter Country Offices in Africa, currently Mozambique, DRC, Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan. In case of an emergency, the position holder is available to deploy worldwide as media coordinator.
In a Nutshell
In close cooperation with the communication department at HQ, you will:
Collect programme information for communication purposes in all Johanniter country offices in Africa
Plan- and create ready-to-publish content (text + image + video) for online media, print and social media in close coordination with the country offices in Africa
Select- and supervise- external service providers (photos, videos, and visibility material for the creation of photos and video material
Provides editorial support for fundraising activities
Train staff in the African offices on communication topics
Liaise with German representatives in Africa (donors, NGOs, embassies)
In case of need, provide support as media coordinator also outside Africa
Support country offices with ideas for visibility materials
Conceptualize, edit, produce and publish communication materials to present work of our pro-grammes as well as presenting the technical and strategic key focus areas of the Johanniter International Assistance in German and other languages
Plan and create ready-to-publish content (text, images and video) for online media, print and social media in close coordination with the programme department of Johanniter International Assistance
Conduct communication briefings for staff from Johanniter International Assistance
Make regular business trips to the African project countries to support public relations work
Work closely with the programme teams and Head of Missions of the country offices to plan contributions and be able to speak to the press and German representations
What you bring:
University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience
3-5 years of experience in press and public relations work
Strong textual confidence, mastery of journalistic genres
Experience in photography and video production
Fluent in oral and written German and business English compulsory
Experience in communications work for INGOs is an asset
Experience in Africa is an asset, particularly in East Africa
Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the context of different countries in East Africa
Resilience and Flexibility
Ability to work in a team, and with little supervision
Ability and willingness to travel regularly
Intercultural competence
Ability to formulate complex issues in a precise and target group-oriented manner
