I was beaten by my parents for a decade and they didn’t believe they were actually hurting me because they would only hurt me when they were drunk. One night, my dad facetiously called the police on himself to prove he wasn’t abusing me. I ended up getting taken to my sister’s and then ended up homeless because she didn’t have enough room for me. My university stepped in and gave me a flat and stuff, as well as putting me through therapy. I think, it’s completely changed the way my parents see me. We’ve been working on our relationship and they value me much more now that they know I don’t need them. I’m autistic so everybody was worried about me being on my own because I mightn’t had the care I need, but I do just fine and I’m glad I can prove to everyone that I’m more than just my disability
