Because political echo chambers have created inaccurate generalizations about what “the other side” wants and thinks.
It doesn’t help that compromise in politics has completely disappeared, and is now viewed as a negative, instead of what it actually is… A means for incremental progress. There is now an expectation that if you aren’t getting exactly what you want, exactly when you want it, exactly how you want it, you’re losing. I don’t know who could have possibly created that idea. /s
