People who randomly spit on the ground…why?

I used to live in a remote Aboriginal community in the Kimberly region of Western Australia. If you were talking to the locals and they thought what you were saying was bullshit, while you are mid sentence they would spit on the ground and quickly look at you while frowning then look away. Within that context it is a true pinnacle of dismissive body language.
