So my grandmother had SO MUCH STUFF for such a small place. Literally a one bedroom apartment, it took myself, my sisters, my cousin, my mom and my aunt three trips to clear everything out.
What we did first was find homes for the big, bulky stuff. Bed, chairs, fridge, cabinets. We emptied those out, and moved them out. That left us with quite a bit of space to sort.
Then we tackled the place section by section. We had a “keep” section and then a “throw away” section. Some of us went through the cupboards to do the initial keep/ throw sorting while someone else did the actual packing and putting in bags to throw away (and moving out into the hallway).
Once that was done, then we transferred all the stuff to my aunt’s house as she had the most space. Once there, we sorted through all the things and decided what we wanted to distribute between ourselves, what we wanted to give to other people, what we would give to charity. That took a couple of hours only.
Then I took some of the stuff to a charity I support, my mom took some stuff and she was supposed to give to a charity but two years later it’s still in her garage, and my aunt took some stuff for a charity she supports.
Overall I’d say it took about four days.
