I’ve only gone three times, I’m embarrassed to admit.
Once was a criminal trial. I gave an overly detailed answer showing my potential bias against each side in an animal rights protestor case. I would probably have ruled for the defendant, depending on the particular facts. The prosecution accepted me, the defense booted me.
The last one was a civil case against a car company. The plaintiff’s lawyer dismissed several ok jurors to get to me and the guy next to me. I found in the plaintiff’s favor, but was more conservative than the rest of the jury when it came time for damages. We argued and figured out a number we could live with.
The middle case was sad. A criminal case where a woman was killed getting out of her car by a guy who first ran into several other parked cars. The prosecution called a relatively minor witness. There was a delay. We expected the passenger of the victim to be there, so did the prosecution. They couldn’t get her to show up, so the involuntary manslaughter case was dismissed. She wouldn’t show up for her friend who died in front of her.
