Why do you think is that Americans use more abbreviations like GoT and JFK when the other nations presumably say the whole name?

Are you kidding? People in the UK reduce everything to a one- or two-syllable shortened form. Fish and chip shop? Chippy. Michael Jackson? Jacko. Football, which is only two syllables to start with? Footy. And on, and on.
